What should I wear for everyday horse riding?
Always wear a certified riding helmet and proper riding boots with a heel for safety. Choose breathable base layers with comfortable jodhpurs or breeches, plus riding gloves for grip and control. Add weatherproof layers for winter riding and hi-viz clothing for hacking to ensure visibility. A body protector is advisable for added safety. These essential pieces of riding wear keep you safe, visible and comfortable in any weather or discipline.

What’s the difference between jodhpurs and breeches?
Jodhpurs extend to the ankle and are worn with short boots, while breeches are designed to fit inside long riding boots for competitions or training.

Can equestrian clothing be machine-washed?
Yes, most equestrian clothing is machine washable – always check individual care labels first. Generally wash jodhpurs, breeches and base layers at 30°C with mild detergent to maintain stretch and technical fabrics. Turn garments inside out to protect colours, fasten zips/fastenings, avoid fabric softener which can affect moisture-wicking properties, and air-dry when possible to preserve elasticity and fit.

Is country wear suitable for riding?
Many country wear pieces work perfectly for casual hacking and yard work - waterproof country jackets, gilets and fleeces offer warmth and weather protection while maintaining freedom of movement. However, for schooling or competitions, proper riding wear like technical breeches and fitted jackets provide better performance. Always ensure any country clothing worn for riding doesn't have loose fastenings that could catch, and pair with certified riding hats and proper riding footwear for safety.
